LinkedIn buying signals, and how long each one lasts

A LinkedIn buying signal is something a person or their company does that says now is a good time to reach out: viewing your profile, engaging with a competitor's post, starting a new role, hiring for the problem you solve. Signals fade. A profile view matters for about a week; a new role matters for months.

The signals, strongest first

These are the strengths and fade times Bingle uses to rank leads today. “Counts half as much after” is the signal's half-life: after that long it adds half as much to a lead's score, and half again after the same time.

How to use them

  • Fit comes first. A signal from someone outside your ideal customer is noise. Bingle multiplies fit by intent: a perfect fit with no signal scores 30 out of 100, and the signal decides the other 70, so a strong signal can't rescue a poor fit.
  • Signals stack, with diminishing returns. A second signal adds less than the first. Signals from colleagues at the same company add to the account at a discount.
  • Reach out while it's fresh. Because signals fade, a profile view from this week outranks one from last month. The best leads are the ones that just moved.
  • Open on what they did. The signal is the reason for the message. Start from it, in your own voice, instead of a template.

FAQ

What is the strongest LinkedIn buying signal?

Someone viewing your profile or engaging with your own posts. They already know who you are, so a message lands as a reply to something they did, not a cold pitch.

How long does a LinkedIn buying signal last?

It depends on the signal. In Bingle a profile view counts half as much after about a week, engagement with a competitor's post after 2 weeks, a new role after about 3 months and a funding round after about 4 months.

Is being active on LinkedIn a buying signal?

Not on its own. Posting often or matching your ideal customer says who someone is, not that the timing is right. A buying signal is something dated they or their company did, like viewing your profile or starting a new role.

Can I track LinkedIn buying signals automatically?

Yes. Bingle watches LinkedIn for these signals, keeps only people who fit your ideal customer, ranks them by fit and timing, and drafts a message from the signal for your OK.
