Short answer
What time should I send LinkedIn messages to US buyers from Australia?
From 1 November 2026 to 13 March 2027, 9am in New York is 1am the next day in Sydney and 9am in Los Angeles is 4am, so schedule your sends in the buyer's time zone instead of staying up, for example with Bingle's per-sequence send window set to America/New_York. Write in US spelling, give prices in US$ and suggest call times in their zone. CAN-SPAM covers commercial email, so it applies to sales emails that follow a LinkedIn chat, while the FTC's guide to it says nothing about LinkedIn messages.
How we researched this
On 26 October 2026 we read the NSW Government's daylight saving page, NIST's daylight saving time page, the US Office of Personnel Management's federal holiday list, the FTC's CAN-SPAM compliance guide and section 7 of Australia's Spam Act, and worked out the hour gaps from the dates they give. How Bingle's send window works comes from Bingle's own product settings. We didn't measure reply rates by send time.
How many hours ahead of the US is Sydney?
Both countries change their clocks, in opposite directions and on different Sundays, so the gap moves four times between October and April. NSW daylight saving started at 2am on Sunday 4 October 2026 and ends at 3am on Sunday 4 April 2027. Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania and the ACT change with NSW; Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory don't. In the US, NIST says daylight saving time ends at 2am local time on Sunday 1 November 2026 and starts again at 2am on the second Sunday of March, which in 2027 is 14 March.
| Dates | Sydney and Melbourne vs New York (ET) | vs Chicago (CT) | vs Los Angeles (PT) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 4 Oct to 31 Oct 2026 | 15 hours ahead | 16 hours ahead | 18 hours ahead |
| 1 Nov 2026 to 13 Mar 2027 | 16 hours ahead | 17 hours ahead | 19 hours ahead |
| 14 Mar to 3 Apr 2027 | 15 hours ahead | 16 hours ahead | 18 hours ahead |
| 4 Apr 2027 onwards | 14 hours ahead | 15 hours ahead | 17 hours ahead |
Our arithmetic, from those dates and the standard offsets. Brisbane stays on UTC+10 all year, so it is one hour behind Sydney until 4 April and level with it after. Perth is three hours behind Sydney until 4 April and two hours behind after. Denver, on Mountain Time, sits one hour ahead of Los Angeles, and NIST lists Arizona among the places that don't observe daylight saving time at all.
When to send so it lands in a US morning
A LinkedIn note you send at 3pm in Sydney arrives at 11pm or midnight in New York and sits under whatever else comes in overnight. Sent in their morning, it is one of the newest things in their inbox when they look. We haven't measured whether that lifts replies; it is simply the reason we'd time it. For most of the Australian summer, these are the Australian times that match 9am on a Tuesday in the US:
| 9am Tuesday in | Sydney and Melbourne | Brisbane | Perth |
|---|---|---|---|
| New York (EST) | 1am Wednesday | 12am Wednesday | 10pm Tuesday |
| Chicago (CST) | 2am Wednesday | 1am Wednesday | 11pm Tuesday |
| Los Angeles (PST) | 4am Wednesday | 3am Wednesday | 1am Wednesday |
Those times hold from 1 November 2026 to 13 March 2027. Before 1 November, and again from 14 March, every time in the table comes an hour earlier: 9am in New York is midnight in Sydney. From 4 April Sydney's clocks go back as well, and 9am in New York is 11pm the night before in both Sydney and Brisbane.
Watch the weekday as well as the hour. At 9am on a Monday in Sydney it is 5pm on Sunday in New York and 2pm on Sunday in Los Angeles. A Monday to Friday schedule run on Sydney time therefore sends from Sunday afternoon to Thursday night, US time, and never during a US Friday working day. Their Friday morning is the small hours of your Saturday.
For live calls, the overlap is your early morning and their afternoon. Between November and mid-March, 8am to 10am in Sydney is 4pm to 6pm the day before in New York and 1pm to 3pm in Los Angeles. West Coast buyers are the easy ones to meet; for New York, a 7am or 8am Sydney start is about the limit.
US public holidays are not yours. These are the federal holidays the Office of Personnel Management lists for the coming months. They are the days off for federal staff; private companies set their own, so treat the list as a guide to when inboxes go quiet.

Tone: the small changes a US reader notices
You'll read plenty of advice that Americans want a blunter message, or a warmer one, than Australians do. We couldn't find a source we'd stand behind for either claim, so we won't hand you a rule like that. What we can give you are the mechanical changes. Each is small, and a US reader spots every one of them in a two-line note.
| Write | Why |
|---|---|
| organisation, analyse, colour | |
| organization, analyze, color | US spelling. Check your headline and About section too. |
| 3/11 | |
| Nov 3 | Americans read 3/11 as March 11, so spell the month out. |
| 10am | |
| 10am ET, or 10am your time | Name their zone whenever you suggest a time. |
| $5,000 | |
| US$5,000 a month | Label the currency and the period. |
| EOFY, end of financial year | |
| before your fiscal year ends | EOFY means 30 June to you and nothing in particular to them. |
| arvo, heaps, servo | |
| afternoon, a lot, gas station | A US reader may have to stop and work these out. |
Say where you are. Your profile shows Sydney anyway, and naming the time difference before you propose a call saves a round of messages. Keep the note itself first person, short, and about them. A connection note for a US freight broker might read: "Hi Dana, your post on carrier onboarding put most of the delay down to paperwork. Is that still where the time goes on your team?" Once they reply and a call makes sense, between November and mid-March: "I'm in Sydney, so my 8am is 4pm ET for you. Would Tuesday at 4pm ET work?"
Both examples are for a made-up seller and buyer. Run your own through the message checker before you send; it flags the stock lines that read as a template in either country.
Pricing in US dollars
Quote US buyers in US dollars and label it. An American who reads $5,000 assumes US dollars, so an Australian-dollar price written that way is a misunderstanding sitting in your proposal until the first invoice. Write US$5,000 or USD 5,000, round it, and say whether it is per month, per year or per project.
Decide before the first call whether your US price is a fixed US$ list price or a conversion of your A$ price. A converted price changes with the exchange rate every time you quote, which looks odd to a buyer who asks twice. A fixed US$ price stays put, and you carry the currency movement instead. Ask your accountant how GST treats what you sell to US clients; we haven't covered tax here.
Bingle is one worked example: it lists every plan in US dollars, for Australian customers too. After 7 days free with no card, Starter is US$49 a month, Growth US$79 and Agency US$149 for up to 3 LinkedIn accounts. Paying yearly costs 10 months for 12, so Growth comes to US$790 a year. The plans are on the pricing page.
US rules worth knowing
The US federal law sellers ask about first is the CAN-SPAM Act. The FTC's compliance guide (August 2023, edited January 2024) calls it "a law that sets the rules for commercial email". It covers "any electronic mail message the primary purpose of which is the commercial advertisement or promotion of a commercial product or service", and the guide adds: "The law makes no exception for business-to-business email."
The guide is about email from start to finish. It doesn't mention LinkedIn, direct messages or messages on social networks, so a LinkedIn connection note or message is not what it describes. The moment a LinkedIn conversation moves to a sales email, that email is covered, and the guide lists what it needs:
| What it means for a follow-up email |
|---|
| No false or misleading header information |
| From, To, Reply-To and routing details identify you or your business. |
| No deceptive subject lines |
| The subject line matches what the email says. |
| Identify the message as an ad |
| Disclose clearly that it is an advertisement. |
| Tell recipients where you're located |
| Include a valid physical postal address. |
| Tell recipients how to opt out |
| Explain clearly how to stop your marketing emails. |
| Honor opt-out requests promptly |
| Act on each one within 10 business days. |
| Monitor what others do on your behalf |
| Hiring someone to send for you doesn't move the legal responsibility off you. |
The guide puts the penalty at up to US$53,088 for each email in violation.
Selling into the US doesn't switch off Australian law. Section 7 of the Spam Act 2003 gives a commercial electronic message an "Australian link" if "the message originates in Australia" or the sender is "an individual who is physically present in Australia when the message is sent", wherever the recipient is. Whether a LinkedIn message counts under the Act has not been tested; our guide to the Spam Act and LinkedIn outreach in Australia sets out what is known. For how many invitations you can send in a week, see LinkedIn's connection request limit.
Setting Bingle's send hours for US leads
Bingle sends from your own LinkedIn inside a send window, and the window belongs to each sequence, not to each lead. In a sequence's Settings you set a From hour, a To hour, the days and a time zone. A new sequence takes the time zone from your Bingle settings, so if yours is Sydney it sends on Sydney hours until you change it. The window uses that one zone for everyone in the sequence; it doesn't look up each lead's location.
- Add the US to your ideal customer's locations in Brain > ICP, so Bingle's sources look for people there. Saving rescores your leads.
- Make a separate sequence for US leads, so your Australian sequences keep Australian hours.
- In that sequence's Settings, set Timezone to America/New_York, America/Chicago or America/Los_Angeles, and tick Monday to Friday. The days count in that zone, so Monday means their Monday.
- Pick the hours. 8 to 11 in New York lands at the start of an East Coast day. For a list spread across the country, 11 to 13 in New York is 8 to 10 in Los Angeles.
- Approve drafts during your own day. Message drafts wait in the approval queue until you approve, edit or regenerate them, and approved steps go out inside the sequence's window, spaced through it.
- Read the times in your own zone. Bingle shows every time in the time zone from your settings, so between November and mid-March a 9am New York send shows as 1am the next day.
If you switch off automatic LinkedIn sending in Settings, steps land in Today's sends instead, and each goes out when you send it by hand, at whatever hour that is in Sydney. On plans: Growth has unlimited sequences, so one per US time zone costs nothing extra. Starter is planned to allow one active sequence once billing opens, so on Starter pick the one window that covers most of your list.
To find who to message in the first place, Bingle watches LinkedIn for buying signals such as job changes, hiring, funding and engagement with competitors' posts, and ranks people by fit and timing with the reason shown. The buying signals page lists them, and the Bingle blog has guides on several of them.
Questions
What is the time difference between Sydney and New York in November 2026?
From 1 November 2026, when US daylight saving time ends, Sydney is 16 hours ahead of New York, so 9am Tuesday in New York is 1am Wednesday in Sydney. The gap drops to 15 hours on 14 March 2027 and to 14 hours on 4 April 2027.
Does CAN-SPAM apply to LinkedIn messages?
The FTC's guide describes CAN-SPAM as the rules for commercial email and defines what it covers as electronic mail messages; it doesn't mention LinkedIn or direct messages. A sales email you send after a LinkedIn conversation is covered, business-to-business included.
Does Australia's Spam Act apply when I message US buyers?
It can. Section 7 gives a message an Australian link if it originates in Australia or the sender is physically present in Australia when it is sent, wherever the recipient is. Whether LinkedIn messages fall under the Act at all hasn't been tested.
Should I quote US prospects in US dollars?
Yes. Write US$ or USD, round the figure and state the period. Decide whether it is a fixed US$ list price or a conversion of your A$ price, because only a conversion moves with the exchange rate.
Can Bingle send on US hours while I'm in Australia?
Yes. Each sequence has its own send window with a time zone you choose, such as America/New_York, and approved steps go out inside it. The window uses one time zone per sequence, not each lead's own.
